The Croods - now on Blu-ray and DVD!

Did you know Canada..  my Mom took my big boys to see The Croods in theater and they have been talking about it EVER SINCE!  They are always asking, remember that movie with the cave men, it's coming out on DVD this fall!

Well fall is finally here and The Croods are indeed out on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD!

The second this movie arrived we popped it straight into the PS3 and have watched it nearly every day.  We have the DVD copy all ready in the van to watch during a big trip to see family this Thanksgiving weekend as well!

Planes Flying Into Theaters Today

Did you know Canada.. Planes is a new amazing Disney movie hitting the theaters this week. From creators of Cars, Planes are going higher and definitely faster into the wide opening sky to pursue the dreams, fell in love and find many good friends around the world.


The movie starts with Dusty Crophopper, a crop duster plane, who is dreaming to join the around-the-world “Wings of the Globe” race along with other planes despite his fear of heights. It is great that around him buddies also hopelessly believe in him like forklift Dottie and fuel truck Chug. When I and my little one watched the movie we had a strange feeling that Dottie and Chug were Dusty’s mom and dad.


Dusty turned out to be very lucky to get into the race and compete with other planes in speed and endurance. It was impressive to see Dusty’s knowledge of other planes, their achievements, skills and best turns. He also showed so much support and respect to every single plane competing in a race.

The competition started and as the reporter questioned: everyone wanted to know who will be #2, since no one doubted previous races winner Ripslinger would be #1. But as it sometimes happens that nothing can stop big dreams and everything can change in Planes lives, from being a favorite and #1 to a loser, and from emergency room patient with no hope to continue the race to a super plane thanks to good friends support.

The movie is also filled with romantic moments, first one I love when incredibly hot Mexican plane El Chupacabra was trying to win the heart of beautiful Canadian plane Rochelle with his passionate singing. And my second favorite is when South Asian plane Ishani invited Dusty to show the heartbreaking surroundings during their Asian flight. Huge advantage that this movie came out in 3D, giving amazing views of the sky, clouds and planes crossing the air. It was really spectacular movie to watch and my boy loved it a lot, nothing is compared to flying into the sky.

Planes in 3D opens in theatres today, so Ladies and Gentleplanes are you ready to join the race and fly across the Globe?

My Little Pony Equestria Girls In Store Today!

Did you know Canada.. today, August 6, My Little Pony Equestria Girls, a brand new full-length feature, is available in stores!

When Twilight Sparkle's crown is stolen from the Crystal Empire, she purses the thief, Sunset Shimmer, into an alternate world where she finds herself turned into.. a teenage girl!

That's right, this fun movie re-envisions the main characters of Friendship Is Magic, normally ponies, as human characters in a high school setting!  This was a very exciting turn of events for all our My Little Pony fans!


TO regain her crown and return to Equestria, Twilight must learn how to fit into this strange, new world and defeat Sunset Shimmer in a competition to become crowned Princess of the Fall Formal at Canterlot High.  Luckily, she will have the assistance of Spike and five teenage girls who remind her of a certain group of ponies back home. ;)


Taking place after the season three finale and before the fourth season of Friendship is Magic, if you have a serious My Little Pony fan at home, this is a must see!  What a fun surprise to bring home this week to enjoy during the summer.  We have watched it a few times already, the kids are enjoying comparing the girls with their pony counterparts.

“Lone Ranger” Review

Did you know Canada..The Lone Ranger opens in theaters today. Starting with the plot – the Lone Ranger - a movie about adventures of Native American spirit warrior Tonto played by Johnny Depp and John Reid (Armie Hammer)- a lawyer and justice seeker. These two absolutely different guys have to find ways to communicate to each other, learn how to fight numerous bad guys and become heroes.

The story goes back in 1869 when railroad construction was on its peak under the watchful eye of railway mogul (Tom Wilkinson) ready for everything to achieve his financial goals. John Reid and Tonto first meet in a train going to the town, same train also carried Butch Cavendish, a criminal who later managed to escape and kill John Reid’s brother Dan.

The movie is full of action, chases, rides, trains and crashes. My only note is that the movie was a mix of dramatic scenes with funny ones and not quite consistent, that way I am totally for funny ones.
As for characters, if you saw Armie Hammer in “Mirror, Mirror”, his Lone Ranger is close to that role may be with some changes. Tonto is funny, sneaky and I not know how he knew what is going on all the time. Anyway I liked how Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp played till the last scene.

Overall the movie is great, amazing costumes, decoration, lots of jokes and shooting, probably not good for younger audience and pay attention to thrilling canyons views, in theatres they look incredible.

KRE-O Star Trek Construction Sets

Did you know Canada..  Hasbro Canada has some AWESOME new KRE-O Star Trek Construction Sets based on the new Star Trek into Darkness movie!

My guys were so excited to receive this 432 piece set!  The  U.S.S. Enterprise ship along with 5 Kreon figures, the ship lights up and shoots missiles, the boys (and Dad) and been having a ton of fun.

It's also been a great gateway into introducing the boys to the world of Star Trek and the older movies.

Easy to put together with easy to understand instructions, well made pieces that fit together perfectly, once assembled it's been able to stand up to a lot of play.  The boys love to put KRE-O sets together, searching for the right pieces, following the directions, and seeing something as exciting as the U.S.S. Enterprise come to life right before their very eyes!

What a fun gift to give for the start of summer, it would be a great project to work on!

Disney Movies coming out this summer

Did you know Canada..  Summer is already here, school and classes are almost over and we are all ready to have fun enjoying sun, swimming, picnics, camping, and other outdoor activities.  And after busy days do not forget to stop by your nearest theatre because this summer Walt Disney Studios invites everyone to join fantastic adventures with three movies you are sure do not want to miss.

First one is Monsters University coming out  June 21, 2013 and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D in select theatres:  Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always that way.  From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

Second one The Lone Ranger opens in theatres on July 3, a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor.  Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous confrontation as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The third one is animation picture Planes, from above the world of Cars, with release date fell or takes off, we will see on August 9, an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voiced by Dane Cook), a small-town plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer.  But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights.  So he turns to an experienced naval aviator, who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit.  Dusty’s courage is put to the test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible.

In May we were invited to Walt Disney Studios Canada in Toronto to learn about upcoming movies of 2013 and by the way enrol in Monsters University, so see you in theatres and be ready to have a good time.

Koala Kid Available TODAY!

Did you know Canada.. Koala Kid, a fun family DVD, is available exclusively at Wal-Mart Canada today, April 30th!

Journey down under and meet a whole new breed of hero in this laugh-filled, action-packed animated adventure with an all-star voice cast, including Rob Schneider, Tim Curry and Alan Cumming. Johnny (Schneider) is a rare white koala bear who just wants to fit in and make friends. But when a twist of fate mistakenly transforms him into a fearless protector of animals, called “Koala Kid,” Johnny finds himself in over his head on a thrilling trek across the outback. With help from his hilarious new sidekicks, including a crafty Tasmanian devil, a lovable lizard and a boomerang-flinging female koala, Johnny may just outwit a villainous crocodile named Bog (Cumming) and become a true hero after all.

My boys and I have been enjoying this movie this afternoon, Rob Schneider's character is so fun, great for the whole family.  The boys have been acting out parts and talking about lizards, the outback and crocodile's - all in an Australian accent, it's been fun and silly.  There's also a fantastic tone about accepting who you are and knowing who you are, this Mama loves that. :-)

A good one to pick up this week and surprise the kids after school or for a Friday night movie night!

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Did you know Canada..  My Little Pony has hit Canadian stores with 2 features: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – Adventures in the Crystal Empire and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic - Pinkie Pie Party.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is the #1 show on Treehouse in Canada!  We watch a girl in my boys class on school mornings and I was excited to surprise her with these DVDs this morning. We started watching Pinkie Pie Party (available exclusively at Walmart) which includes 5 episodes, and bonus features include a Sing-Along and a Party Activity Kit and everyone (including the boys) loved it!

I actually enjoyed it too..haha.. if you haven't seen it yet, these ponies got a bit of attitude to them and are funny and enjoyable to watch.  It follows the story of Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie as they learn about friendship in the town of Ponyville.

We are looking forward to checking out Adventures in the Crystal Empire (available in store April 16th) later this week, it also includes 5 episodes from the beloved series, and bonus features including a sing-along and colouring sheet.  I've read this DVD includes the first 2 episodes of season 3, which is a two-part story, and this is big news for pony lovers!  Great gift to surprise a My Little Pony fan in your life.

I love these DVD sets as they include favourite episodes, they are also perfect for a quick watch in the morning or great to bring out in the car if you have a DVD player.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days

Did you know Canada..  we JUST finished watching the brand new movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days on Blu-ray (it just came out on DVD/Blu-ray yesterday!).  It is SUCH a fun movie, and what a great gift idea for under the tree this  year (still a few shopping days left!).

Everybody’s favorite wimp, Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon), is back for three times the fun in the latest film based on the super-popular book series! When Greg’s dad (Steve Zahn) threatens to send him to military school if he doesn’t stay out of trouble, Greg finds all-new ways to land himself in the doghouse! For starters, Greg’s in over his head when he pretends to work at the swanky country club where Rowley’s family has a membership. Things don’t go much better on a father-son camping trip with the Wilderness Explorers, and then there’s the Heffley’s new dog, Sweetie, who fetches even more trouble for Greg in this hilarious family film!

My boys are a little young for the book, but we are just getting there and now that they have seen this fun movie, they are going to be even more excited to get into the books which I absolutely love!

A great movie to watch as a family, the whole thing is a hoot and the boys especially loved Sweetie the dog.  I think a wide range of ages would enjoy this one, and we will be picking up the older movies for the boys to enjoy too.  Perfect to watch on the second week of Christmas break from school.

Years after his adventures with the Lost Boys, Peter Pan is a hardened litigator with absolutely no memory of his time spent in Neverland. So it’s not going to be easy for him to find his footing when Hook kidnaps his children and demands a rematch.

The Princess Bride (one of my favourites, so many memories!)
Was any movie ever as romantic as this tale of true love so great, it could not even be derailed by death?  Kings, castles, swamps, giants, con artists, wizards and, of course, pirates, make up this amazing, beloved film, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The Amazing Spider-man!

Did you know Canada..  we are excited about The Amazing Spider-man movie coming out this week and have been checking out the awesome new Spiderman toys from Hasbro Canada.

The Web Battler Spiderman is really cool, you squeeze his legs and he brings webs together, the boys have come up with tons of fun story lines as Spiderman battles with their other action figures.

The Amazing Spider-man Spider Strike Battle Vehicle is one of my guys favourites.  The car comes with a small spiderman that sits in the car, you can then launch the roof and spiderman holds on to the web to swing out.  My guy actually bring this to bed every night, it's so sweet.

The Amazing Spider-man Hero Mask has been lots of fun around here.  We all take turns wearing it, even when my guys go out..haha..  It really brings play to life, fits well and is open enough that it doesn't get too hot or overwhelming.

We saved the best for last in our opinion - The Amazing Spider-man Mega Blaster Web Shooter with Glove Set.  It's a mouthful to say, but it is AWESOME.  Fits well, the handle took some getting used to but my little guy can shoot no problem.  The set comes with 1 can of web fluid and a refillable water cartridge, so the fun doesn't stop even when you run out of webs.  We were excited to see this as a present at a birthday party the boys went to over the weekend, they can now shoot with a friend as well for tons of fun.

BRAVE Brings Scotland to Canada

Did you know Canada.. In celebration of the release of Disney•Pixar’s “Brave” on June 22, Walt Disney Studios Canada is bringing a taste of Scotland to Canadian cities this weekend.

What: Traditional Scottish bag pipers and dancers will journey through Canadian streets on Saturday and Sunday. Lads and lasses are encouraged to join the celebration, where they will have the opportunity to see clips from the film and win prizes.

Perfect for imaginative play for my 4 year old boys, we've been having lots of fun making these guys battle each other. Thor is our fav, with his huge hammer, cool cape and a huge sword spike that launches. I know collectors will be going nuts for these guys as well.

Marvel The Avengers Ultimate Heroes (approx. $24.99)
We received a 10-inch Repulsor Strike Iron Man, there's are so cool with electronic sound effect, he talks and shoots missiles!! I love the size of this guy, he's been king of the 3.75-inch characters we've been playing with..haha..

Marvel The Avengers Iron Man Tri-Power Repulsor (approx. $22.99)
This has been the biggest hit as it's caused the most fighting ;-) You get to wear it on your wrist and palm, it makes sound, lights up and shoots 6 darts up to 20 feet!! This guy has actually gone to bed wearing this already..haha.. it's led to some awesome role play.

Marvel The Avengers Hulk Gamma green Smash Fists (approx. $24.99)
These huge Hulk hands have been another great role play item. I appreciated that they were soft foam-rubber so the boys can battle without getting hurt. This has led to some really funny play, cool moves and great pictures.

Marvel The Avengers Hero Mask (approx. $10.99)
We tried on the Thor mask, in fact, this guy has barely taken it off. I love that it leads to great role play without being scary to wear as some masks can be. They are light and comfortable, with an awesome design on the straps so it stays on busy boy's heads.

Splash'N Boots

Did you know Canada.. voted the Canadian Children's Music Group of the Year, Splash'N Boots was first created back in 2003 in Kingston, Ontario by Taes and Nick. After graduating from Queens University in 2005 they took Splash'N Boots on the road and have been a hit ever since!

My boys have been loving their new DVD "Splash'N Boots Act 2: A Whole Lot of Awesome". Described as Saturday Night Live meets Wayne's World for kids, the new full-length DVD is a mash-up of over 50 minutes of infectious melodies and hilarious music videos with a plethora of skits featuring dedicated Splash'N Boots fans.

The songs are catchy, as a parent I like the boys seeing real people playing instruments and singing, so the boys know that is something they could learn to do too. We've danced, laughed, talked about what we've seen - it's truly one of the more interactive DVD's we've ever had and enjoyed as a family.  The boys sure would love to meet Lily the dog in person too. :-)

I've got to say, as an adult I roll my eyes when adults are performing for children and how fake it all feels; but without a doubt, Splash'N Boots have genuine enthusiasm and it absolutely shines all the way through and makes their program enjoyable for the whole family.  We're looking forward to seeing them on Treehouse TV in their new "Roll Play" show as well!

Something I think is really fun - currently Splash'N Boots are working on their SIXTH album and they are looking for help from their Facebook fans!! Winnie The Pooh

Did you know Canada.. Winnie The Pooh is one of my all time favourite children's movies. Created by A. A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh was named after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne, who was the basis for the character Christopher Robin.

Christopher Milne had named his toy bear after Winnie, a Canadian black bear which he often saw at London Zoo, and Pooh, a swan they had met while on holiday. If you can believe, the bear cub was purchased from a hunter for only $20 by Canadian Lieutenant Harry Colebourn in White River, Ontario, Canada, while en route to England during the First World War. He named the bear "Winnie" after his adopted hometown in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Return to the Hundred Acre Wood is bringing the magic home again. Walt Disney Pictures will be releasing Winnie The Pooh on DVD and Blu-Ray October 25, 2011!
